Salt Creek - Kayak Trip / Canoe Trip

Report Type: Day Trip Report
Trip Dates: Summer 2009
Nearest City: Gretna, NE
Difficulty: Easy
Submitted by: Dennis Brady

Description:

My wife, Patti and I have a favorite 2 to 3 hour trip on the Salt Creek that we've done many times in the last 2 years. We enter a mile west of the Loma Beach Resort on Hwy. 6. You can either go down stream to the Platte River and get out at the Schramm State Fish Hatchery about a 3 hour trip. Or you can paddle up Salt Creek (very slow current) for as far as you want and then drift back to where you entered.

It is very beautiful with trees on either side and wild life all around. This is a unique place because you can put in and take out at the same place so you don't need to have a pick up spot.

Accommodations:

None- Parking place to park your vehicle.

Fees:

None

Directions:

From Omaha, Nebraska: Hwy. 6 about 6 miles west of Grenta, NE. Go 1 mile past Loma Beach to a bridge over Salt Creek on the northeast side of the bridge is a launching area and a place to park your car.

From Lincoln: About 3 miles east of Ashland on Hwy. 6. Cross the Salt Creek Bridge and on the northeast side of the Hwy. is a launching area and a place to park your car.
