Upper Pine Creek - Kayak Trip / Canoe Trip

Report Type: Day Trip Report
Trip Dates: July 3, 2009
Nearest City: Galeton, PA
Difficulty: Easy
Submitted by: BKehoe05

My wife and I paddled Upper Pine Creek just East of Galeton, PA. We put in at Watrous and paddled downstream (approximately 10 miles) to the Darling Run Access Point. Water was at 2.15 feet. Bumped some rocks but the creek was running fast and beautiful!!! Portage stage is at 1.80 feet. Trip took approximately 3 hours.

Saw lots of wildlife as well as plenty of fishermen. There is the ability to fish while paddling this portion of creek and it is definitely worthwhile! Weather was perfect this weekend for a paddle and we can't wait to go back!

None. There are no accommodations until you reach Darling Run at the end.

None, except $20 kayaking PA pass (2-year).

Route 15 North or South to Mansfield, PA. Take Route 6 west through Wellsboro towards Galeton. Travel approximately 8 miles outside of Wellsboro and hang a left onto 362 take first right into Darling Run Access. Park one vehicle there and get back out onto Route 6. Travel approximately 10 miles further west and hang left into Watrous. Drive straight down main road and go straight onto dirt path. Parking area ahead.

We did not use any, but a canyon map would be beneficial.
Check the Cedar Run Water Table prior to paddling. Anything less than 1.8 feet water height will require portaging.
