Description:

Me and a friend paddled the Rocky River in Chatam County this past weekend. This is a River you do when the other ones are too high. It is very rain dependent so timing is everything. 'THE bible' ("Paddling Eastern North Carolina"), will give you more info on this section 4#.

It's about a 4 mile paddle if you get out at White Pines Perserve or a 8 mile paddle if you go into the Deep River and get out at the U.S.1 Bridge. Put in at the 15-501 Bridge and take out at place.

This is not an easy paddle at high water levels! Lots of class two's and a few three's. Rock gardens and a pretty good run down to the Deep...not a lot of flat water. One good drop of about four foot watch out for this one you can loose it if you aren't careful. A good rapid or two in the Deep then flat water till the Dam..go around this! You should see signs of it before you get too close, go to the right to go around Dam.

A good trip all in all! Go after a lot of rain....no fun when water is down!

Fees:

none

Directions:

Hwy 15-501 to Pittsboro to Bridge over Rocky River.
