The Magnolia River is an easy flowing river in Baldwin County, Alabama. It is known for fishing and the location of upscale summer homes. A unique feature is that the river is also a post office route. Yes, the post man uses a boat to deliver the mail. Homes along the river have their post office boxes on their piers and their addresses are River Route, Magnolia Springs, AL.
The river is edged with hard wood trees including magnolia's which spread their limbs over the water. The river flows into Week's Bay which is an estuary area of Mobile Bay. The makes the river move with the tides. The river is well known for Red Fish and Sea Trout fishing.
The river and the town of Magnolia Springs were the inspiration for Fannie Flagg's book, "A Redbird Christmas."
There is a country store, restaurant and bar all in one building in "downtown" Magnolia Springs. Also there is a nice B&B in Magnolia Springs.
The town of Magnolia Springs is located on Hwy 98, 6 miles west of Foley, AL.
A public put in is at the south end of Rock Street in Magnolia Springs. From Hwy 98, turn south on CR 49 and follow it to Oak Street. Turn west on Oak Street and go to Rock Street. Turn south on Rock Street and drive to the end. At this point, park and the river is 100 feet down a trail in front of you.
