Pasley Park Beach - Kayak Trip / Canoe Trip

Report Type: Day Trip Report
Trip Dates: May 10, 2009
Nearest City: Jensen Beach, FL
Difficulty: Moderate
Submitted by: lynette422001

Description:

This is a Martin County Beach distinctive for not being crowded and for having few steps and a short walk over the dunes, favorable for hauling kayaks. I have visited this spot on many occasions.

On May 10, 2009, the Atlantic was basically flat. It was a little murky and cold. Not optimal conditions however I paddled anyway. It's amazing how fast the miles fly by in the ocean. There was minimal current and wind and I easily paddled 2 miles south then returned. An easy 90 minute work out on a really beautiful day. The sky was clear.

The big event of the day was the sighting of a large ray which came fully out of the water for my viewing pleasure. I think that I also got a glimpse of a turtle, moving fast. On previous visits to this site, I have seen dolphins, frigate birds, and many fish.

This is a great spot for ocean kayaking. Be sure to bring plenty of water, PFD, extra paddle, paddle leash, and a whole day if possible. If you paddle a few miles to the south (4), there is a lighthouse museum to visit as well as some amazing rock formations.

I recommend a SOT for these conditions. If you wish to paddle a sit-inside, be prepared for waves. They can come up at any time.

This is also a great site for kayak surfing, if the gods give you waves.

Accommodations:

There are NO restrooms at this beach. The dune crossover is 5 steps. Restrooms are available 2 miles north at Jensen Beach

Fees:

none

Directions:

If you wish to find this spot, enter the following address in your directional device of choice: 900 East Ocean Blvd, Stuart, Florida. This is the address of a nearby Publix Supermarket. From Publix, Pasley Park Beach is about 3 miles north, on the right. It has a small parking lot and the sign is small so drive slow. If you get to Bob Graham Beach, you have missed it.
