It's finally spring weather which means even more time in my Chesapeake Light Craft 20' kayak. I put in just at day break at Lee's Ford Marina (which has a nice restaurant/bar). The water temperature is just 42 so I really didn't plan on catching any bass today, but I still like the feel of casting in hope of a little pull on my line. There are not many boats this early on the lake , and especially NO kayaks, which is why I'm writing this article in hopes to attract kayakers who like to fish (esp fly fish) from their boats. I talked to a couple of older men who are fishing for crappie so I paddle to a couple areas where I know they hang out.

All together, I spend about 3 hours on the beautiful lake. Since the lake is low due to work on the dam, I paddle way up into Fishing Creek and throw a few more casts. I sip on my coffee and enjoy listening to the sounds of the woods and the lake. It's just about 2 miles back to the ramp so I paddle hard for a good workout.

Tomorrow I plan on kayaking and fly fishing at Wolf Dam for trout. Again, there are no kayakers so I'm hoping to meet up with others who share the same outdoor experiences as I.

Lots of hotels and great camping areas. There are a lot of marinas and ramps for easy put in and take outs. Camping along the lake is wonderful!

No fees for kayakers....$3.00 for other boats to use ramp access.

SouthEastern Kentucky off I-75 to Hwy 80 East about 45 minutes to Somerset.

The lake is huge So I would recommend a map if you plan on a long excursion. I'm available at: if anyone needs help with directions or other trip planning information.
