Stoney Creek Metro Park - Kayak Trip / Canoe Trip
Report Type: Destination Report
Nearest City: Rochester, MI
Difficulty: Easy
Description:
Quiet, large 500 acre lake with a 10 mph boat speed limit so it cuts out motorboat and jetski activity. A launch area is at Eastwood Beach that is right next to a parking lot.
For the most part it’s pretty quiet, even on weekends. A very quick drive from the northern Detroit suburbs.
Place of interest on the lake:
West end of the lake is an island and out on the east end is a large cove, the entire lake is loaded with wildlife: geese, swans, birds of prey, plenty of fish, turtles & deer.
Best times to go is later in the day or early evening on weekdays, at that time the place pretty much empty for the exception of a few sailboats and some other yakers. Plus about one of the best sunset views over the water found in southeast Michigan.
If you don’t have a kayak, the park rents them for I think $5 an hour. Usually rentals are from April until October, but check the park for further info.
