Description:

This was a morning paddle on Opossum Creek. I think of this more as a cove or a slough though, not a creek.

I wanted to get out to see some Fall colors on a morning paddle before the wind started in latter part of the day. This cove was new to me and so this involved some "exploration" too.

The water was smooth and reflective, a good day on the water. Didn't catch any fish, saw some Hawks and Herons though. There are several houses along the bank but there are places that are undeveloped. My boat and I broke out into the big water of the Tennessee River too.

Accommodations:

The boat ramp is privately run now, bought from TVA I suppose, but this is a good thing because the owner is able to take care of the area better than TVA. There is a good boat ramp and a port-o-let.

There is camping here for both trailers and tents. Tent camping is a bit pricey at $21.50 a night but they look well run and clean.

Fees:

The owner asks for a $3.00 payment at the gate.

Directions:

Hwy 27 between Soddy Daisy Tn and Dayton Tn. Follow the signs to the Opossum Creek Recreation Area on the east side of 27. The signs will eventually take you to Lee Pike and the recreation area. The mouth to the cove is Tennessee River Mile 489.8.

Resources:

Army Corp of Engineers map from their website, specifically the Sale Creek/Oppossum Creek map below:
