Description:

We left early Saturday morning from the old 19 put in. Couldn't ask for a better fall day. The first 6 miles of the trip took us about 10 hours to canoe, seeing as we had to go up, around and over many fallen limbs. That was the first day.

The second and third days we covered about 23 miles a day and ended up at Tippecanoe State Park. Besides the first day it was a perfect trip, luckily the weather held out and we got no rain (every time I camp at the state park I get rained on :().

The river is slow in points but we never bottom out or have to walk our canoe through any points. I really loved the diversity of the river from rock lands with crayfish scurrying everywhere, to marshlands to rolling meadows in the distance. The first night we camped happened to be about 20 yards from a beaver dam, he didn't care to much for our presence and asked us kindly to leave at about 4 in the morning with his tail on river.

The second night about 10 miles up river of rising sun campground we camped on an island between the river and the start of an oxbow. The entire trip we saw maybe a total of 8 people 5 fishing and three in front of there motor home drinking beer. They threw us one each and yelled something I can't recall. They seemed fun.

All in all, it was one of my favorite trips ever. Funny though with all the serenity and beautiful landscapes, the one thing that has stuck with me the most is coming up around a bend and hearing music in the distance. The Who's "Gypsy Acid Queen" blared on a campers radio. Never have quite thought of the song the same, funny how music sometimes fits.
