Trip Dates: July 31, 2008
Nearest City: Wonewoc, WI
Difficulty: Easy
Submitted by: coffeecame1

Description:

Started out early AM, left bicycle at the canoe launch in Wonewoc. Put in downstream from Highway 33 bridge in Union Center. Parked vehicle at the "400" bike trail in town.

Nice paddle although the put in and take out were pretty muddy. We kayaked past the 3rd Castle, a rock outcropping along the river. Had a deer run across the river in front of us, also saw a fawn and two kingfishers. I then rode my bike on the "400" trail back to get our vehicle, while my husband stayed with the kayaks.

Nice 4 mile trip along the gravel bike trail, that was a railroad line at one time. 5 1/2 miles one the river took 2 1/2 hours with a few downed trees to contend with, but we managed not to get in the water. 4 mile bike trip to get car about 20 minutes.

Accommodations:

We stayed at Chapparal Campground in Wonewoc- nice facilities with a pool.

Fees:

$4.00 for a day pass on the "400" bike trail.

Directions:

Wonewoc is on Highway 33 in Southern Wisconsin, Union Center is 4 miles North.
Put in next to Golf course, on the grassy bank downstream of the bridge.
