White River - Kayak Trip / Canoe Trip
Weekend Trip Report
July 19-20, 2007
The White River is a really wonderful and peacefull float through some of the most quiet and remote desert in Utah. We did the float over two days, yet feel it would have been nice to camp another day and relax even more. The river was flowing at around 700 cfs. We feel that it would have been better at 850 cfs. There were a few trees to dodge, but they were east to avoid. The swimming opportunities were great and really fun. The camping opportunities were many, all with shade. I will definitely do this again.
Be advised that the deer flies are horrendous. Take a THICK long sleeved shirt and pants because they can bite through thin cotton. Also bring mosquito net hats and a tons of bug spray. With these items you can avoid the spots of deer flies and really enjoy the White River
Ignatio park has an outhouse and plenty of wood to burn for fire. There are also wood tables
Go from Vernal to Bonanaza. Right after Bonanaza (south) you will cross a modern bridge with an old abandoned steel bridge below and the the side of it. Turn right (west) after crossing the modern bridge and drive a short dirt road to the river and to Ignatio park.
