Bell Cow Lake - Kayak Trip / Canoe Trip
Day Trip Report
March 9, 2008
Went to Bell Cow lake on Sunday March 9, 2008. Temperature was about 65 Degrees, and the wind was dead calm (a rare treat in Oklahoma).
Lake was great a lot of standing timber near the middle of the lake. Did not go fishing but I suspect the fishing in and around this timber would be great.
The lake is not very wide at most points but is very long. My wife and I paddled at a sedate level for more than one hour, and we did not get near the end of the lake.
Many quite coves located throughout the lake. Blue Heron were perched in the standing dead timber, and they had made platforms in the dead trees with grass and twigs. Found a few ducks and geese as well.
Lake has several amenities and campgrounds. It also has a great swimming beach on the south end. The beach is mostly sand and gradually gets deeper as you get closer to the markers. (No I did not swim on this trip).
Fish to include all the regular Oklahoma species, bass, catfish, crappie, etc...
Another great hidden lake in the Oklahoma landscape.
Campgrounds, boat ramps, pavilion, horse trails, swimming beach, showers, rest rooms, water and RV hook ups.
Honor boxes at lake.
Fees for camping, boating, and fishing.
Northwest of Chandler; not sure how to get there from Chandler, but it is near the golf course.
On Highway 177 South of Carney about 3 -4 miles there are blue highway signs indicating a turn off for the lake. Follow the paved road to the North end of the lake or keep going and turn west after crossing the dam for the South end of the lake.
