This is a no wake lake and has couple of interesting features. Surprisingly, along the east shore, you will find some greenery including occasional trees, and tall grass growing from the lake.

We saw about 7 other canoes among all the fishing boats in our 3.5 hour trip. Bring a hat and sunscreen of course. Not bad for a quickee.
I recommend putting in at the east boat ramp. It is closer to the vegetation, cliff, and the mouth of the Rio Grande to the north where most of the canoes were heading.
