Bluff Point State Park - Kayak Trip / Canoe Trip

Report Type: Day Trip Report
Trip Dates: September 2, 2007
Nearest City: Groton, CT
Difficulty: Moderate
Submitted by: Bruce

Description:

We started the day with a trip to Barn Island which turned out to be a bad idea being Labor Day Weekend. No place left to park. Plan (B) was to put in at Bluff Point State Park.

The trip out to the beach on the inner side of the point took about 45 minutes at a relaxed pace. Once there, we carried our Pelican's about 50 feet over the dunes to the seaward side. After eating lunch, talking with other yakers, going for a swim and just enjoying the day. We put in on the seaward side and made our way around the point and back into the bay.

On the way back to the launch, we encountered 5 to 10 knot tail winds which we all know can be a pain in the neck with the tracking of most kayaks. All and all a fantastic place to paddle and enjoy life.

Accommodations:

Didn't see any Portlets. Plenty of parking, picnic tables and hiking trails.

Fees:

None

Directions:

95 North. Take exit 88 to Rt 117 south. Turn right onto Rt 1. Take your next left when you see the Bluff Point State Park sign.
