Ellicott Creek - Kayak Trip / Canoe Trip
Day Trip Report
June 5, 2007
You can put your craft in at Niagara Falls BLVD and Ellicott Creek road. I started out going east and within a quarter mile the creek splits. If you go to the north split you find the creek to be wide with no trees. There were some blue heron in this side. I also went to the south fork, talk about a split personality. This side of the creek offers more cover and a slightly rustic paddle. There were numerous trees that had fallen into the water after our famous October storm but nothing I couldn’t get past. There were numerous heron on this side today. A green heron, and several other water birds which I couldn’t identify . You could hear vehicles on the road but rarely could see them.
It was only about a 2 or 3 hour paddle but was really quite pleasant and relaxing. Some houses and properties come down to the creek but there were also enough areas where it seemed you were far enough from civilization. Snapping turtles and box turtles were out and sunning on both sides. The creek does reconnect after about 2 miles or so and then becomes a little civilized again as it passes through the university area but there are areas where it became a little wild again.
Multiple Hotel/motel, Several fast food and sit down restaurants are along the Niagara Falls BLVD
