Pigeon Creek/Pigeon River - Kayak Trip / Canoe Trip
Day Trip Report

I decided to go this section solo putting in at the Heidelbach canoe ramp. Once again the water was up several feet due to more rain the week before. Evansville is in the process of building a Green Way alongside Pigeon creek and a paved pathway runs beside this section for close to a mile. I saw several joggers, walkers and cyclists during this portion.
The scenery is noticeably different on this section of the creek because we are in the city. Obstructions now included a refrigerator, tires and several LP tanks, although I never had to exit to maneuver around them. The current made the paddling easy and I made it to the Frankin St. Bridge in less than two hours. There is a take out at this point that is still under construction, but made the exit pretty easy.
You can see the Ohio River from here, but I stayed on the creek; thatís a trip for another day. I would recommend this section only if the water is up. There is less wildlife on this section and several homeless camps, but also a lot of history that you would not otherwise see.
