Bayou Cane - Kayak Trip / Canoe Trip
Bayou Cane is a spectacularly scenic little bayou winding its way through marsh, eventually emptying out into Lake Pontchartrain.
The bayou is only about 2 miles in length and just deep enough to paddle a canoe or kayak through. Much wildlife can be seen especially an osprey's nest about one mile downstream to the right. When I paddle Bayou Cane, I usually go around dusk to catch the sunset over the Lake - spectacular!
No fees; public launch
Traveling east on I-12 take Hwy 190 exit towards Mandeville. Continue on hwy 190 East towards Lacombe for about 10 miles. On the left will be the St. Tammany Fire Station and directly across from the station is a little dirt road public lauch.
There's no sign so be on the look-out for that fire house.
Put-in and take-out at the hwy 190 launch.
