White River - Kayak Trip / Canoe Trip

Report Type: Day Trip Report
Trip Dates: January 27, 2007
Nearest City: Indianapolis, IN
Difficulty: Easy

Description:

Noblesville, IN to River Road Park - Carmel, IN

We put in at the public access in Noblesville (coordinates: Lon -86.015549, Lat 40.048859) at about 8:30 AM, when the temperature was about 35 degrees.

Two paddlers, one in a Necky solo touring kayak, one in a Liquidlogic Zirconia tandem set up as a single. We have set a goal of paddling at least once a month this year, and this was our January trip. Due to busy schedules and weather we barely got this one in.

The 146th Street gauge showed 4.6 feet, so we had mostly slow-moving water. While it was a gray day, the wind was not too stiff and we stayed warm from paddling.

Wildlife spotted on the trip included two coyotes, several herons and some mallards.

We attempted to locate a geocache just downstream of Conner Prairie, but it was still underwater from rains a couple of weeks ago.

This paddle only has a couple of small riffles, most of it is like paddling flatwater. The scenery varies from quarries to farmland to residential.

The takeout is the accessible fishing station at River Road Park, near 122nd Street (coordinates: Lon -86.049273, Lat 39.968021).

This trip was approximately 9 miles.
