Ricker Pond - Groton State Forest - Kayak Trip / Canoe Trip
Day Trip Report
Submitted by: garym053
Ricker Pond is within the Groton (VT) State Forest System, which contains numerous lakes and ponds and 25,000 acres of hiking, biking, X/C Skiing, etc trails. Ricker is an easy pond (104 Acres +/-) to paddle, which makes it an easy place for beginners. We saw a mink, several pairs of Mallard Ducks, a Common Loon, which probably flew in to feed from one of the surrounding ponds in which they nest. In addition to the wildlife there were about 20 kayakers out paddling this pond this weekend!
There are 5 campgrounds within the Groton State Forest System. Ricker Pond Campground is on Ricker Pond. There are 30 some tent/small trailer sites and 20 some Leanto sites. There are Flush Toilets and hot showers ($) available. No electricity or water ON sites.
Camping Fees are $13.00 per night. No fees to park and paddle at public parking area.
From Interstate 91, Exit 17, take Rte 302 West through Groton to Rte 232 North. Take a right onto Rte 232 North and drive about 2 miles to a parking area on right. Put in is at the Southern tip of pond.
