Approximately 4 miles, this trip took us only about an hour and a half. Not quite as long as we would have liked but this trip was a bit impromptu. We saw an abundance of wildlife – ducks, great blue herons and kingfishers.
One serendipitous event – a golf course located on the right offers a convenient restroom if a paddler is willing to climb a bit of a slope. Of course my gender probably aided in the lack of objection by those playing the links so perhaps making a regular habit of this isn’t recommended.
Apart from the occasional old tire, beer can, etc. the scenery is pleasant. Being close to metro-Atlanta it is perfect for late-afternoon jaunts. After my last trip (Etowah River July 4, 2006) this beginner level paddler felt very at ease with the little effort required and enjoyed the one tiny rapid. I look forward to trying other parts of this river.
Take Peachtree Ind/ Hwy 141 North from Atlanta. Just north of Medlock Bridge Road is the Park with a ramp.
