Description:
I put in at Charlton County Park at Thornapple Lake. It was a beautiful day, sunny, about 78 degrees with a slight breeze. After passing about a mile or so of cottages and houses, it really becomes secluded.
The water level is definitely down right now, the current was almost non-existent in a lot of spots. There were a couple of bottom dragging spots I had to portage around in Hastings. Right in Hastings, I saw a doe and two fawns standing in the river.
After passing through Hastings, the water deepened for the most part, but the current was still very slow. I put out just past the Airport Rd Bridge at a DNR canoe site.
It was a very nice float, and with the exception of going through the city of Hastings, a very secluded float, no other paddlers at all.
