Buckley-Dunton Reservoir - Kayak Trip / Canoe Trip

Report Type: Destination Report
Nearest City: Becket, MA
Difficulty: Easy

A man-made upland lake in the October Mountain State Forest, Buckley-Dunton seems far away from civilization, there being almost no buildings visible aound it - only woods and Berkshire hills. It is usually empty except for a few outboards with fishermen, some kayaks and canoes, and maybe a recreational rowing shell. Two beaver hogans are closely approachable. Good for a quiet afternoon of lazy paddling.

There is nothing but a boat ramp at the lake. Lee has tourist facilities, and an interesting road-house restaurant called the "Dream-Away Lodge" which can be reached by continuing on Becket Road and turning left on County Road.

Take Mass Pike to Exit 2, Lee. Go east on Route 20 until you hit a stretch of concrete pavement. Turn left at end of concrete on Becket Road, which goes steeply uphill. Follow to Buckley-Dunton sign at utility buildings. Turn left on bumpy but paved access road. Park at boat ramp.

Don't know of any unless October Mountain State Forest has something.
