Report Type: Destination Report
Nearest City: Berlin, MD
Difficulty: Easy
Submitted by: gorillaboy21

Description:

Sinepuxtent Bay is a small quiet body of water bordering the western shore of Assateague Island. You can kayak past uninhabited islands and marshes. The best part is the wildlife. Asaateague is known for its wild horses. I guarantee that if you paddle along the entire shore of the bay you WILL see wild horses. There are also deer, fish, and many varieties of deer. One of the most relaxing day trips possible.

Accommodations:

This is best for a day trip but tent camping is available along the ocean or the bay. Camping is $10-$20 a night. You can also do backcountry camping where you kayak or canoe to the campsite of your choice.

Fees:

There is a $5 entrance fee into the National Park, and camping is $10-$20 a night.

Directions:

From Berlin, MD take route 376 eat to route 611. Follow signs for Assateague national seashore. You will cross a bridge and drive for about two more miles. Pay the parks $5 entrance fee and continue going straight. Take the second right where there are signs for "Old Ferry Island".

Contact:

The national park service runs Assateague Island. I reccomend www.nps.gov or www.assateague.com

Resources:

Before crossing the large bridge on route 611 there is a National Park Visitor Center on the right. Stop there to get maps or information. Even if you don't need maps the visitor center is very interesting and free.
