We camped at the State Forest Campground on King Lake and had a beautiful waterfront campsite and the whole campground to ourselves. The lake is long and can be windy, but has many islands and nooks and cranny’s to maneuver around in to fish and explore. It's hard to land on the islands due to the vegetation but when you do it gives you a nice chance to stretch your legs.
There are a lot of big rocks in the lake too. They look like they just dropped out of the sky as are in groups sticking up in the lake. There are some streams flowing in the lake but they are not maneuverable very far; I tried in the Kayak.
We talked to some locals and they said it’s a excellent Pike lake, but we were a little early in the season for the western end of the Upper Peninsula… I knew that, but a weekend of fishing with the boys is always better then a weekend doing chores at home.
We slept in our 4 man Cabalas XPG tent, which we will be using with the Canoe and Kayak at the end of June when we go to Isle Royale for backcountry canoeing.
All in all a good place to start the year on the water!
