Silver Creek - Kayak Trip / Canoe Trip

Report Type: Day Trip Report
Trip Dates: April 30, 2006
Nearest City: Richmond, KY
Submitted by: Nick

Silver Creek is an easy paddle near Richmond. My girlfriend and I paddled it in a Pelican Colorado canoe.

A few Class II rapids, mostly slow moving creek water. The level was lower than I would've liked, (had to get out and pull through several small stretches) but overall it was a very pleasent trip.

The location is absolute wilderness. We didn't see a single person for the 2-3 hour trip. Very nice scenery. At our put-in there is a 4' waterfall. We're both beginners so we opted for a put-in a little downstream. Beautiful natural scenery: ducks, heron, deer.

Very nice place to paddle!

Parking near put-in locations; access to river at take-out

From exit 87 on I-75: Take Barnes Mill road away from town. 1-2 miles, left on Curtis Pike. About 1-1/2 on the left there is a road to go to Wilgreen Lake. The bridge at that intersection is a good put-in if the water level allows. If not, take Barnes Mill Rd. about 2-3 miles further until it splits.
The alternate put-in is under the bridge. Where Barnes Mill splits at the bridge, veer right in the split onto Bogie Mill (last time the sign was missing, so pay attention.) Keep on Bogie Mill for another 3-4 miles to the take-out, near the dead end.
Take Out: Look for the covered bridge crossing the creek, the take-out is about 1/2 mile downstream.
