Mullet Creek - Kayak Trip / Canoe Trip
Melbourne Beach, FL
Submitted by: irlboater
On the eastern side of the Indian River Lagoon 5 miles north of Sebastian Inlet, Mullet Creek is a series of islands and canals that were dug by the Mosquito Control in the 1950's.
The islands so far have escaped developement due to the State/County purchase several years ago. Mullet Creek and the surrounding islands are home to dolphin who come in the Creek daily to feed on...(you guessed it) mullet. Manatees also frequent the area.
There is a slow speed limit so you shouldn't have to worry about motorboat wakes. River otters, osprey, bald eagles and feeding racoons are common sights.
Honest John's is open from 6am to 6pm. They also rent kayaks on site.
A $5 ramp fee covers one car with up to two kayaks.
13 miles south of hwy.192 off of A1A. One half mile south of the yellow flashing caution light that stretches across A1A at the community of Floridana Beach.
Honest John's Fish Camp has a ramp and grassy launching area that puts you right on the Creek.
