Fisheating Creek - Kayak Trip / Canoe Trip
Weekend Trip Report
March 18-20, 2006
Submitted by: creekcamper
The weather was perfect for paddling and camping with the high only at about 79. We departed the Fisheating Creek Campground in rented canoes and began our trip south towards Lake Okeechobee. As we crossed under the Hwy. 27 bridge we noticed the water level down a bit to 1.38 but determined to enjoy our day we pressed on.
As we entered the winding creek we found some of the most beautiful places on earth. Our first stop was at a sand bar in which we met other paddlers and campers staying on the shore watching us drag our canoes to the deeper water. They advised us to be careful due to the shallow water and having to drag the canoes for a while further down stream.
We did have to drag the canoes a bit but once we found deep water the trip was well on its way. As we rounded a bend in the creek wew were in awe as to what lay ahead of us. A beautiful white sand beach and quaint swimming hole surrounded by sand bars was like a lost paradise that had just been revealed. We stopped and enjoyed the rest of the day there remembering that we had to get back before dark. We then returned to the campground and decided next time we would stay on the creek instead of at the campground.
