Saturday morning after breakfast and a cup of tea, we broke camp to do a little exploring upriver and though we had a steady 6-12 mph headwind we easily made it past the Deep River/Haw River confluence to the town of Moncure (5-6 miles from camp).
Saw our new found buddy Marsh and his 2 dogs there on river left so we stopped to chat. Marsh was kind enough to take me to the store for a six pack since the afternoon sun was shining and a cold beer just felt right.
Since we never found a suitable camp we just paddled back to Mckay Island and camped in the same spot as Friday night. The headwinds we fought the whole way to Moncure gently blew us back, a nice state of affairs.
Grilled some turkey sausage burgers on a stowaway grill on top of the littlebug and enjoyed another night of river camping though it was a little colder.
Sunday morning slept late, had breakfast, broke camp and the wind blew us slowly back to the ramp where people were putting in all types of boats for a day of fishing or whatever.
