Cat Point Creek - Kayak Trip / Canoe Trip
Weekend Trip Report
Submitted by: LeeChamberlain
The put in point is off of the Rappahannock river at Naylor's beach.
Paddling up the Cat Point you will pass by the Tayloe section of the Rappahannock River National Wildlife Refuge. The vistas are of marsh and the accompanying wildlife and waterfowl.
Passing by Julian's Point you enter into Short's Marsh area as you paddle upstream you see the Newland Bridge at Rte 624 paddling further you will see the entry to Menokin Bay and off to the Port side of your kayak or canoe you will see Heritage Campground and Winery.
You can get a good site or do the return route to make the circuit route itís about an eight hour day trip up and back. If you venture into the marshes watch the tides or you could have a six hour wait for the tide to return as the gut openings are quite silted at this point in time and the mud banks can be deceptive. However many of the marsh openings give an exciting days of nature and its bounty.
