Big River - Kayak Trip / Canoe Trip
Coventry, RI, USA
Big River is narrow and very winding in places which can make for a challenging paddle for even an experienced kayaker. If you head under the Route 3 bridge, you will travel approx 2 mi until you reach Johnson’s Pond. If you decide to head in the opposite direction, you will encounter many obstructions and difficult paddling. Beaver dams are unavoidable and extremely tough to cross. Other problems are: Strong currents and trees/brush obstructing the river so unless you are an extremely good kayaker, this route should be avoided.
There is a parking lot right on route-3 that allows for 6-7 cars. If you are on Route 3 headed towards east Greenwich, you will see a small bridge and a small dirt parking lot on the left hand side. Before you get to the bridge, you'll see a big river sign. (that means your getting close) After you park in the dirt lot, there is a relatively short path through the woods and the river is right there.
