Florida Panhandle - Kayak Trip / Canoe Trip

Report Type: Day Trip Report
Trip Dates: Mar. 2001
Nearest City: Pensacola, FL
Difficulty: Moderate
Submitted by: Tom Lindblade

Description:

Six members of Prairie State Canoe Club paddled 4 rivers in the Panhandle, and The Shoal, Blackwater, Perdido, Sweetwater/Juniper. After eight inches of rain the rivers were in low flood, but all were quite easily paddelable. The Upper ends of the Perdido and the Sweetwater had numerous pullovers but after a couple of miles both were very beautiful trips.

Accommodations:

We camped at Blackwater River State Park which is centrally located for all of these rivers. The campground is very nice.

Directions:

Directions can be obtained from Canoeing Florida. Even with the book, it is essential to have the DeLorme Atlas because several of the put ins and take outs are from very obscure roads.
