Clarion River - Kayak Trip / Canoe Trip
Day Trip Report
Cooksburg, PA, USA

We spent a few days at the Cook Forest State Park in PA and took a day trip with our Old Town Guide canoe on the Clarion River. I would say that the majority of the river was passable but in a few spots the water level was too low for us to paddle through at this time of year. It was still a very enjoyable trip. There were plenty of large rocks to stop and have lunch on, on the river. They are large enough for 4 people to sit comfortably with a cooler and food etc. From our put in location, we spent about 4 hours taking our time and pulled out at the Pale Whale Canoe Livery.
We were able to have the Pale Whale Canoe Livery drop us off at our put in location so we could leave our car at our pull out location. There are plenty of places to stay. We stayed at the Hide A Way Cottages, which in the Clear Creek State Forest (right next to Cook Forest). There are many other cabin rentals and lodges available.
The fee from the Pale Whale Canoe Livery was $18, which is half the price of renting one of their canoes.
The Cook Forest and Clear Creek Forest both provide hiking and water trail maps and information. All you have to do is visit a visitor’s center.
