Day Trip Report
Island Pond, VT, US

What a gem. Norton is an overlooked treasure. I have put off the trip to Norton for a number of years because it appears on the map to be adjacent to the road. Was I ever wrong. Sure I could hear the traffic faintly in the distance and even see while on the north end but it really had no affect on my experience. The coves and inlets of the south end provide the nosier paddle with a good fix. There are just a few camps on the lake and the boat traffic seems to be light. There were a pair of loons on the pond but I could not see a chick. Islands, coves and clear water sum up this afternoon on the water. Well worth the drive.
Island Pond has hotels motels and dining. There is also Brighton State Park with lean-to camping along with tents and RV. Brighton also has two lovely spots to paddle.
Nope, not yet.
11 miles or so north of Island Pond on VT114. The launch is 6.2 miles north of the jct. of 114 and 111. It is kind of difficult to pick up as you are driving, I missed it. It is safe to say that you can take the first left on a paved road once you see the pond.
