Winchester Lake - Kayak Trip / Canoe Trip
Day Trip Report
Winchester, CT, USA

Maybe this is a different Winchester Lake than already reviewed here and in other places on the web, or maybe it's just been years since it was reviewed. I've seen this described as 250 acres, man-made lake, and un-developed. Now the un-developed part is completely wrong. It's nearly wall to wall house. Nice houses but still :) Also, there was a significant amount of power boat traffic. So, enough moaning, all in all this was not an un-pleasant canoe trip. There's a free parking lot with plenty of space. The sides of the lake are mostly lined with trees, which in the 90 degree weather provided plenty of shade for us to paddle in. People along the water were mostly friendly, we took frequent breaks under various trees along our path to drink water and snack. We stood in the shallow water next to our boat and people were friendly and chatty. At the far end of the lake is a cove and a state park, so we joined a bunch of other boaters in the shade for a relaxing lunch.
