Description:

For those of you doing an Alaska Inside Passage cruise who want to go kayaking and you don't want to wait in the long lines and crowds of the cruise line sponsored trips, I would highly recommend a half-day trip with Southeast Sea Kayaks. My husband and I just got back from our vacation there and their Orca Cove trip was the highlight of our week! They max out their groups to 6 people, unlike the 20+ that go with the cruise ship kayaking trips. The staff is very personable and down-to-earth. Both my husband and I have kayaked before in North Carolina, our home state, but this beat anything we've done thus far. We are large people, and S.S.K. easily accommodated even people of our size. The greatest thing about the experience was the whale sighting. As we were finishing our paddle, we saw five Orca about 100 yards away from our kayaks! That's why they call it "Orca Cove". This trip is great for getting a taste of paddling in Alaska. Any skill level can do it!

Outfitting:

Southeast Sea Kayaks (Their smoked salmon picnic they provide after kayaking is delicious!)

Fees:

The fee for kayak rental and guide is $139 plus tax for a 4 hour trip, with about 2 1/2-3 hours paddling time.

Directions:

We arrived by cruise ship and they met us at the dock.
