Garnett, Kansas is a town of around 3000 just south of Kansas City and has three lakes all suitable for paddling, Cedar Valley Reservoir being the largest. Lots of standing timber and rock bluffs on the south end make it really nice to paddle. You can paddle way back into the creek as long as the water is not too low. In the evening you can enjoy the beavers and variety of other wildlife. If you have time, don't forget to try the other lakes. Crystal Lake is on the south side of town and North Lake Park, the home of Lake Garnett, also has a nine-hole golf course, swimming pool, and tennis courts located in the park. The Rail Trail runs alongside both the Lake Garnett and Crystal Lake so bring your bike.

Camping is available at all the lakes both primitive and with electricity. No water is available at Cedar Valley Reservoir.

Free to paddle. Camping: $9 primitive, $14 elec, $16 elec & water.

Garnett is about 60 miles south of Kansas City on Hwy 169 or about 50 miles south of Lawrence on Hwy 59. Lake Garnett is on Park Road and Crystal Lake is south of town on Hwy 59. Cedar Valley Reservoir is about 7 miles west of town from 7th Street.
