Report Type: Weekend Trip Report
Trip Dates: May 2005
Nearest City: Kelseyville, CA, USA
Difficulty: Easy
Submitted by: Laura Lamar

Description:

Loved paddling at Lakeside County Park so much that we went back in early May; camped at Clear Lake State Park at one of their premium lakeside sites; set up camp and put boats in right in front of campsite. Easy one hour paddle over to Lakeside County Park to the west (thought it would be much further!) with lots of bird watching on the way (nesting great blue herons and osprey; many cormorants and pelicans; mallards with goslings). Perfect campsite and put-in. Highly recommend.

Accommodations:

State campground. Very nice facilities. Large campsites. Very scenic. Popular with fisherpeople.

Outfitting:

Perception Avatar 15.5 touring/expedition/sea kayak; Wilderness Systems Pungo 120 touring kayak.

Fees:

Yes, reasonable overnight fee; small fee for extra cars or to reserve premium lakeside site.

Directions:

Highway 29 to Kelseyville, Ca; Soda Bay Road eastward to Clear Lake State Park.

Resources:

Boating Map from Lake County Visitor Center (www.lakecounty.com or 1-800-LAKESIDE)
