White River - Kayak Trip / Canoe Trip

Report Type: Day Trip Report
Trip Dates: September 2004
Nearest City: Hesperia, MI
Difficulty: Difficult

The White River from Hesperia to Pines Point National Forest Campground is a trip that offers a little of everything. The first hour is shallow as it takes you through private home and wooded areas - giving those who are unsure about paddling a feeling of comfort by being only a phone call away. The next 2 hours the river speeds up a bit but remains shallow as you paddle through sections of the Manistee National Forest. During higher water the last 2/3's of this trip is really exciting! Good landing is located at Pines Point

Hesperia has a canoe livery. Reservations are suggested. Supplies can be bought in Hesperia. Motels and camping are nearby.

There is a $3.00 parking at Pines Point. No river permits.

US 31 north to M-120. Drive 25 miles north to Hesperia. In Hesperia turn left at second four-way stop. River is located 1/4 after you turn.

Canoeing Michigan Rivers has a good description of river and landings.
