Kayak Kauai, Hawaii - Spring 2003
Kayaking on Kauai
Kauai is the western most island in the Hawaiian archipelago. Known as the garden island, Kauai certainly fits the description with lush vegetation on nearly the entire island. Home to the wettest place on earth, there are a myriad of waterfalls and streams cutting through the rich green landscape. Surrounded by the ocean and filled with streams, paddling opportunities abound on Kauai.
Brian Van Drie, co-founder of Paddling.net, and his wife Kara were joined by friends Ryan and Amy for two separate day paddling trips.
Kayak Kauai offers several different paddling opportunities on the island of Kauai. We took two different day trips, the first on the Wailua River for a 5 hour guided paddling trip and hike to Secret Falls where we enjoyed a tasty lunch and a refreshing swim in the falls. The second trip was an mid-morning paddle of the Hanalei River into the National Wildlife Refuge and back to the Hanalei Bay for snorkeling.
