Alaska on the Home Shore - August 2006
Kayaking Southeast Alaska
Few places in the world are more scenic than Southeast Alaska and kayaking is one of the best ways to explore this rugged landscape. Our mothership, our home on the water, provided great accommodations as well as the ability to tuck into quiet bays and small coves to experience Alaska more intimately.
Brian Van Drie, co-founder of Paddling.net, and his wife Kara met two other great couples aboard the Homeshore for an incredible expedition with Captain Jim Kyle along with our kayak guide Benson Isley, and gourmet cook Kendra Miller.
Departing from Sitka, AK, we originally intended to head North to Chichagof Island but with rough seas predicted and incredible scenery in every direction we decided to circumnavigate Baranof Island. We spent each day motoring and paddling around the island exploring the wonderful scenery and each night we anchored in small protected coves.
Don't miss our previous Alaska on the Home Shore trip report from June of 2003.
