Lighthouse Reef - Belize, February 2007
Tropical Island Paradise
Located 50 miles off of the coast of Belize, Half Moon Caye is a picturesque island on the edge of Lighthouse reef. Great paddling, incredible snorkeling, and a remote island setting make this a one-of-a-kind destination
Brian Van Drie, co-founder of Paddling.net, and his wife Kara met eight other paddlers for the trip. We were taken care of by our three guides, Jack, Kaya, and James, our cook, Philip, and his assistant, Javier.
The 7 day trip began at the Belize Zoo where we had a nighttime tour and then slept at the adjacent Tropical Education Center. The next day we traveled to Belize City where we boarded a boat for the 50 mile journey to Lighthouse Reef. We spent the next 6 days exploring the island and kayaking and snorkeling in the crystal blue water of the Lighthouse Reef. We enjoyed delicious meals back at camp on Half Moon Caye and spent each night in large, comfortable tents.
