MisAdventures - Straffed on the Oswego River
Paddling deep in the woods there is peace and quiet surrounded by the beauty of pines, tall stands of cedars and plentiful wildlife from deers to the eagles and herons above. Yet also lurking in the air are flying things waiting to attack as the author of this month's MisAdventures column discovered.

Food Column - Pears: the forgotten fall fruit
November is the peak season for local pears. They may not be the toughest travellers, but with a bit of care, they can be used in a wide variety of simple dishes, at least within the first two day of any paddling trip. Follow our food columnist Anne L. Desjardins as she tells the story behind this delicious fruit and offers useful tips and easy recipes for paddlers.

In The Same Boat
Do your trip photos often disappoint? They do? Then you're in good company. Even professional outdoor photographers have their bad days. But you don't have to give up without a fight. Once upon a time, only the pros could afford to rescue disappointing shots with darkroom magic. Now almost everyone can. Interested? Then check out "Adventures in the Digital Darkroom." It's the latest in Tamia's Backcountry Photography series, and it's this week's offering from In the Same Boat.

Wambaw Wilderness Blackwater Swamp (SC)
by Nature Adventures Outfitters, Inc.
Paddle through a flooded forest back in time in thousands of acres of a protected Wilderness area in the Francis Marion National Forest. Giant Bald Cypress Trees towering over 120 ft. and some over 1,000 years of age can be seen on the banks of this nationally recognized Kayak and Canoe trail. Camp creekside and listen to owls serenade you at night or paddle your way past alligators and endangered swallow tailed kites to the Mighty Santee River and historic Hampton Island. It doesn't get any more pristine than this.

Product Review Spotlight
Manitou 13 by Necky Kayaks
I can tell you that, as advertised, these boats do indeed perform as though you are paddling something longer. The 13 has no rudder and doesn't need one, in my opinion. Each time I paddle I'm reminded of how well it tracks and how easy it is to maneuver. I've paddled mostly rivers, sheltered bays, lakes with this boat to date and I've thoroughly enjoyed each outing... Rating: 10 of 10 by rwleather
