be sure to read reviews on tripadvisor.com and so forth, some of the restaurants in LP are overpriced tourist traps. on advice of locals we stayed away from the places right in the heart of town...

my favorite was Lisa G's which is right on the Chubb River on the south end of town. Monday is "wing night" in the bar area. nice atmosphere, and they also have outdoor dining with a view of the river. Local beers on tap, the food is pretty fantastic and reasonably priced. most importantly, very friendly staff and the service was great.

Lake Placid Pub & Brewery was good but very busy/slow at dinnertime, and they have some renovation going on.

if you crave pizza give Johnny's a try, it's a new pizza joint on the corner of 73 & 86. the owner is old-world Italian and some of the other pizza places suck.

I heard Liquids & Solids was an interesting place if you're feeling gastronomically adventurous; we didn't get a chance to try it. also heard good things about the Eat 'n Meet in Saranac Lake. there are a couple of places in Keene to grab lunch if you're going to be hiking the peaks.

if you go to Whiteface, avoid the concessionaire food and eat at A&W instead.
