I happen to have a 17 ft SOAR but i have not paddle it yet. It is well made and can take a beating. Several friends of mine have used SOARs on the Nahani River in NW Territories. Their take on the boat was, it drops rapids by one grade. The boat was able to handle significant CL3s. Cargo space is a bit limited as compared to hard shell canoe. Hope this helps a bit
