Lots of opportunities. Little river in Montgomery and Richmond counties offers several good options for a day trip with my favorite being from hwy 731 near Town Creek Indian Mound to hwy 73. If the water's moving might want to extend to a take out on Grassy Island Road. The Pee Dee River in Richmond County from the hwy 74 landing near Rockingham to the Digg's Tract Wildlife access is larger water. Blewett Falls lake and Falls Lake are good paddle friendly reservoirs. The lumber river is spectacular as a black water stream anywhere from hwy 501 to it's end in South Carolina. The Lumber River Canoe Club is active every Saturday and can be located on yahoo groups. They are very welcoming of newcomers. Get a Delorme North Carolina atlas and pick a stream. I live in the area and depending on work schedule always enjoy getting out on the water.

  Thanks Shawhh

The Blewett Falls Lake looks good as I'd be sneaking off from a family visit 12/23 or 12/24. As I'd be solo and no shuttle, is it a Lake in the still water sense or any current that'd make a return leg not do-able?

The lake is a hydroelectric reservoir. Negligible current. Recommend you put in at the Mountain Creek boat landing and paddle into the lake, turn right and circumnavigate Grassy Island. This is all in the upper North end of the lake and is the most scenic area. Should be good for some wildlife, undeveloped natural area, pretty.
  I second the Lumber

Lumber Ruver will have to wait for another time.

Shaw, I presume the launch you're talking about is off Grassy Island Rd? At least that's what's shown on the pnet launch app.

Anyone up for a Chirstmas Day paddle. Launch time 8am.

You're quite welcome. Hate it didn't work to paddle together. Perhaps some other time if you get back this way. Take care.
  No worries.

Hi H,
Thanks again for the local knowledge/advice. Quite the conglomeration of bird life out there. I put a couple of pics and description up on

I'll be back through as family is in the Pinehurst area. I'll give you the heads up and being that the car carries 4 boats let me know if there's any toys from the Fleet you want to play with (P&H, North Shore, Valley and Venture)
