winter boating in wv is a bit like
Posted by: tdaniel on Oct-25-13 7:01 PM (EST)

throwing up a hail Mary into the end zone. I don't have much success but it doesn't hurt to try. I have better luck with the class IV+ boater crowd than with folks that are just out for a scenic little paddle, which is what I'm looking for. So if you just want to get out and enjoy a relaxing late fall or winter paddle in the next four or five months then shoot me an email or post. Thanks, Tony

I have several friends who enjoy paddling all winter and even PREFER winter camping since we have the river to ourselves; well, except for the wildlife that is much more visible after the hordes leave.

I live in NC near Charlotte but I like inter camping and paddle year round/Well I paddle from Dec26 through to Dec 24. I never deliberately plan a paddle on Dec 25th....

I'm up for class I - III streams through the winter, tomorrow I'm paddling the cherry river or top gauley- it mostly depends on who I can find to paddle with- prefer the smaller streams when the water is cold to minimize cold water exposure risk
let's plan something!

I'll let you paddle my xp, its got lots of scratches, I can paddle my mirage, y, or rec canoe. Where?- well since you're in NC lets keep it in southern wv and near I77- class I the bluestone above Spanishburg. class II from camp creek state park to the church, II+ upper brush creek above the falls (could be a little rugged adventure, possible downed trees and brush)- all those runs seasonal and near princeton wv and I've never done em. A little further away is the Greenbrier and its tribs. They run more. Lots of good class I and II there.
I'd also be up for headin' south and checkin' out edisto and its branches in sc, or swampin' near columbia sc and i know there's some seasonal I and II stuff in VA and NC located near the blue ridge which could be fun.

Overall I'm lookin' for scenic and a little adventure. I usually paddle on small bodies of water in winter- creeks.

few days and we'll work out the details, thanks for responding- my canoe is poly, kayaks are plastic as well. I'll come up with some options and you can make the final decision. I'm looking forward to expanding my potential paddling partners.
