I am planning a weekend kayaking trip on the Upper New River in West Virginia, weekend of May 25-26th. I will start in Hinton, and end in Thurmond. 2 days on the river, with one night camping, equaling about 19 miles per day. Total mileage on that stretch is 39 miles. There are established primitive camping spots every few miles along the river. Class II and Class III rapids, but nothing too serious. We are taking recreational kayaks, not whitewater. Leaving from Chesapeake, Va on Friday evening, driving up to Thurmond with 2 vehicles, and camping there for the night. Saturday morning will leave one car there, drive the other to the launch point in Hinton. Will begin our paddle down the river, and hopefully reach Thurmond where our car will be waiting on Sunday evening, then drive back to Hampton Roads Sunday evening.
Looking for a couple more guys to join this trip if interested. So far it is myself and one other. Preferably guys near Hampton Roads, so we can carpool and share gasoline costs. Kayaks only, no canoes please. Will be a semi-"wing it as we go" deal, as we have never done this trip before. Must be easy-going and able to go with the flow, not a strict, know-it-all type. Let me know if you are interested.
