The 9th Annual South Bass Island Kayak Rendezvous is a little more than a month away and I hope you can join us again for another year of great paddling, socializing, eating and maybe some more paddling. It looks like our group will again take over the park and turn South Bass Island into the epicenter of kayaking activities on Lake Erie, June 7-9, 2013
You are receiving this email because you've shared your email with me in the past, attended a past SBIKR or have ordered a t-shirt in the past. If you've gotten a similar email, I'm trying to cover all my tracks with email, Facebook and a number of message boards. By now many of you know the routine, everyone makes their own camping arrangements and unless you paddle over, our big kick off event is the Pot Luck at 7 p.m. A few years ago we moved the dinner to the park shelter house and that seems to work well with a roof, seating and area to spread out the food.
Saturday and Sunday are paddle days and our traditional beach departure on Saturday is 10 a.m. from the SBI State Park Beach. We usually paddle into downtown as a group and then split off from there. On Sunday we paddle to breakfast at Frosty's Bar and leave the beach at 8:30 a.m. Dinner on Saturday is on your own and many eat at camp or wander into downtown.
We have a new t-shirt logo this year and you can find the design at http://www.sbikayakrendezvous.com/T-Shirts.html. I'm taking pre orders (s-xxl) before May 31 at email@example.com. Please send me your name, size(s) and email address. I'm looking to do the shirts at cost again $10 and I'm still working out the colors, but I will say the logo is cool! I will have a few extra shirts on the island and if I get enough island orders I may do a second run, but I'd prefer to pre-print and deliver at the Pot Luck. If you order a shirt, but canít make it to the Rendezvous, I can easily ship it to you and we can handle that offline. Shipping runs about $7.
We may also have a special visitor this year. Will Hembree is rediscovering America by kayak as he paddles from NY to Oklahoma. Will is leaving upstate NY on Monday (May 6th) and is going to paddle hard to be at the Rendezvous. Will is filming a documentary along the way and is reaching out to paddlers. You can read more at www.rediscoveringamerica-kayak.com. I might be able to get Will to give a keynote-ish talk at our pot luck. Iím rooting for him to make it in time. He might need help along the way, so reach out to him via his website.
Next year will be our 10th year, so let's build some momentum and completely fill the park next year. I'm working on some special plans to celebrate this milestone. Visit our official website at: http://www.sbikayakrendezvous.com/index.html
