I would like to organize a kayaking trip on the West Arm of the Spanish River this summer and I'm looking for fellow paddlers who might be interested.

The attached link has some background info:

Here's an excerpt from their site:

West Branch, Biscotasing - Agnew lake Lodge In this case easiest way is to get a shuttle to Sudbury Station (Via Rail) from where you take the 'Budd Car' to one off the many drop off points on the river, with Biscotasing as furthest entry point. The train takes you and your canoe with gear to many different entry points on the river. The train goes Saturdays, Tuesdays and Thursdays.

Phone # Via Rail 888-842-7245 Sudbury station # 705-673-1138

The trip from Biscotasing is a bit more technical, with a little more challenging running water flow. if you start at Biscotasing you first have to make your way across the lake towards the dam, from there on your river trip starts, with various rapids ( class II III ) along the way.

We highly recommend the Chrismar Adventure Map of the Spanish River to plan your trip, this quality map gives you lots of information about the river, and will make your trip safer. You can order this map from us , just e-mail

BTW: I'm not affiliated with the lodge or the map company.

I will probably paddle a larger whitewater kayak and camp on the ultralight side (I hate portaging and would rather run the rapids then schlep a lot of gear).

Feel free to contact me if you have an interest. I'm in the Cadillac Mi area and will drive from there (~6 hrs). Shuttles run $90 per driver from the take-out to the train station. They ride to the train station with us and shuttle our car back to the take-out.

The total length of the West Branch is 165km from Lake Biscotasing, although we can have the train stop at multiple locations along the West Branch to make a shorter trip. Water levels are highest in the Spring and may be very low after August depending on rain.

This is West Arm of the Spanish River (Lake Biscotasing is the headwater for the West Arm of the Spanish).
