New years edisto paddle? Posted by: baldpaddler on Nov-04-12 8:48 PM (EST)
Is the stringMan planning a new years day Edisto paddle in South Carolina ?
As I recall, the last time we did this a few paddlers went swimming! But I'm up for a repeat!
We had 14 with 6 going in the drink. I think you need to get String to do that paddle again in shorts and t shirt. I don't think he has been a ice cube since. I do miss the north fork.
Grumpy/ AJ / and I hope Paddler96 if I can get hold of him..
SOUNDS LIKE FUN IM IN
If done on a Saturday,I could maybe round up a couple more people. I have not looked at this forum in months until just now. Must be espn.
As I recall, When Jack & Nanci and Rusty did the Blackwater River Race in the spring, they said it was the worst obstacle course of deadfall they'd ever paddled!
-- Last Updated: Dec-05-12 2:44 PM EST -- know is not an obstacle course. I can't do those any more. this is what I suspected s there: http://water.weather.gov/ahps2/hydrograph.php?wfo=chs&gage=givs1 There will be one small channel most of the way if we do Hwy 21 to Canadys; a little better from Canadys to Givhans.

AFTER THE LAST BLACKWATER RACE I DID I SAID NEVER AGAIN
If we do it sat it makes getting down and back less problematical.
Count me in if it's on Saturday... Then dinner at Duke's?
-- Last Updated: Dec-11-12 7:53 PM EST -- Duke's is a given. How about our old standby: US 21 to Mars Oldfield? I've got 2 more guys from here lined up depending on weather. We ain't paddling at 40 deg and rain.

I was thinking about camping somewhere Friday and Saturday night.

below Colleton. Better for a short winter day.
i will bet the weather here is warmer than when i had to ski in to camp nothing like it !!! `
right. The Greenville contingent would arrive about 9am then we have to set the shuttle.
Hey randy just wanted to let you know me and joe plan on coming even got a few people wanting to tote my mean green machine for some fishing we were gunna try to get a racing canoe in order to get some extra early practice in. tell charlie or steve to give me a call sounds like fun. -aj
paddler today.Hope the weather cooperates.
I am a pretty avid paddler and would like to join. I would be paddling my Wenonah Argosy and have a Dodge Minivan with extra capacity for shuttle purposes (extra canoe and persons)! I have paddled for 20 years all over America, Alaska and Canada and would like to meet some other paddlers! Paddled the North Edisto above Orangeburg and really like it! Brant Pope
Lets firm up where we are meetingso those of us from the great North State of Carolina can find it!
I know its a week away but both TWC and MSN Weather predict a GOOD chance of rain (50-60%)on the 29th. Weather Channel says a high of 59 which is great,..but MSN weather says high of 46! ugly. Lets hope TWC gets the temp right and we are the dry 50%!

across the bridge from Colleton State Park.
After all, Baldpaddler started this as a 'new Years paddle".
wantto drive 200 miles to paddle by myself because everyone backed out cause of rain... String lets lineup an alternative date. And percentage. You know 50% we g0 60% we bail...
Just looking at a map, it looks like about 18 river miles from the Canady/Colleton put-in to the access at Givhans State Park. Doesn't that seem a little ambitious for a day-trip during the shortest (almost) day of the year? Surely I am mistaken and there is an intermediate take-out,.....RIGHT?
-- Last Updated: Dec-24-12 5:16 PM EST -- Mars Oldfield. Reduces the trip by 5 miles and is a lot easier at the take out. The river now has enough water to float a kayak or canoe. http://waterdata.usgs.gov/nwisweb/graph?agency_cd=USGS&site_no=02175000&parm_cd=00065&period=7

Yeah the water levels are coming up nicely just in time! That Mars Old Field takeout certainly makes the trip more doable. Thanks String. Oh BTW just a check of TWC website for our forecast sure does make New Years Eve look like a winner for a backup paddle date! 58 degrees and Sunny
I think all you hard core/soft core and in between core paddlers should go steal a Tijuana bus- put all your boats on/in it, and come down here to paradise for a day or two or three. Jack L
